Feb. 1, 2020 – The No. 3 Loras College wrestling team hosted the Loras College Open giving multiple Duhawks the chance to take the mat. The Duhawks crowned one champion during their home meet on Saturday.

The Duhawks saw one wrestler claim first place as Merrick Purcell won the 174 lb. weight class after defeating his teammate Kolton Bartow by a 4-0 decision.

Zach Thompson earned second place at 141 lbs., Bartow finished second at 174 lbs. Brady Vogel placed third at 184 lbs. after winning by medical forfeit over Rozell Baker of Ellsworth Community College. Mason McMillen, Daniel Ruiz, Baylor Crigger, and Derek Venteicher all placed fourth in their respective weight classes while Duncan McCain, Brandon Turner, and Richard Hunter all finished sixth in their weight classes. Rounding out the day for the Duhawks was Nathan Pitts who finished eighth in the 157-pound weight class.

The Duhawks resume action at home in the Athletic Wellness Center against cross-town rival No. 24 University of Dubuque on Friday, Feb. 7 at 7 P.M.
