Contact: Mark Johnson, Assistant Director of Athletic Communications, 563-588-7970

STORM LAKE, Iowa (Feb. 5, 2020)- The Loras College men's basketball team (15-6, 8-4 A-R-C) rallied against Buena Vista University (15-5, 6-5 A-R-C) on the road as JT Ford compiles back-to-back double-doubles to help the Duhawks win by a final score of 90-83 on Wednesday.

In the first half, the Duhawks got on the board first with a layup from Cole Navigato and never looked back going on a 15-2 establishing their lead early on. Rowan McGowen pulled up on a fast break and nailed a three-point basket to extend the Duhawks lead to 17 points with 11:14 left to play in the first half. The Beavers fought back attempting to kill Loras's early momentum by scoring nine unanswered points but the McGowen quickly responded for the Duhawks with a layup of his own to try and halt the Beavers momentum. Buena Vista kept their hot streak alive cutting what was a 17 point Loras lead down to just three points at the half making the score 35-32.

Buena Vista scored the opening points of the second half tying the game with a three-point basket but Jackson Kolinski but the Duhawks back in front with a layup after a nice pass from Navigato. Over the next eight and a half minutes there would be eight lead changes before McGowen would score the basket that would put the Duhawks in the lead for the rest of the game. Loras would ride this momentum into a 13-3 run giving them their largest lead of the game. The Beavers continued to chip away at the Duhawks' lead until Jake Healy made a three-point basket with 5:54 left in the game to once again put the Duhawks up by 10 points. Buena Vista began to foul but the Duhawks shot an impressive 80% as a team from the free-throw line in the second half allowing them to keep their lead and get out of Strom Lake with a win by a final score of 90-83.

The Duhawks finished the game with all five starters in double figures. McGowen lead in scoring with 23 points while Ford added 17 points and 10 rebounds scoring back to back double-doubles. Healy tallied 17 points and seven rebounds while Navigato added 16 points and a team-high six assists. Kolinski finished the game with 12 points and 4 assists.

Loras returns home for another A-R-C matchup against Coe College as the Duhawks host the Kohawks on Saturday, Feb. 8. Tip-off inside the Athletic & Wellness Center is set for 4 P.M.
