Mar. 7, 2020 – After taking a 2-1 lead following doubles play, the Loras College men's tennis team (5-4) did not let up in singles play and scored a 7-2 win against Lawrence University (3-3) on Saturday.
Tommy Linkenheld and Connor Picnicka tallied the first win of the match with an 8-2 victory at the No. 3 position against Sal Vargas and Yang Zhao and
Kevin Blomquist and
Konnor Barth followed suit with an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles against Evan Oriel and Matt Chan. Lawrence took the win at No. 2 doubles but
Eian Coad tallied a quick 6-0, 6-1 win to open singles play at No. 6 against Zhao. Barth defeated Vargas at the No. 5 spot, 6-2, 6-3, and
Riley Collins scored the winning match against Oriel at No. 2 with a 6-4, 6-2 decision.
Linkenheld also added a win at No. 3 singles against Cam Strawn, defeating him 6-2, 6-2, and Blomquist defeated Connor Maloney at No. 1 singles in the tiebreaker by a score of 6-7, 7-6, 14-12. Pivnicka put up a hard fought battle against Matt Chan at the No. 4 position, but fell in the tiebreaker 4-6, 7-5, 5-10.
Loras' next match is set for Saturday, Mar. 21 against Greenville University at 9:00 A.M.
