Sept. 15, 2020 – The Loras College women's tennis team (1-1) pulled out two hard-fought wins against the defending American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) champion Luther College (1-0) on Tuesday at Tucker Tennis Courts but ultimately fell to the Norse, 7-2.
At No. 2 doubles,
Sara Backus and
Lauren Diiulio battled through to an 8-7 victory against Sofia Sackett and Natalia Smith but the Norse swept the matches at No. 1 and 3 to pull ahead, 2-1, going into singles play.
In singles, the Duhawks came up just short in multiple close matches. At No. 3 singles,
Isabel Schwabe bounced back after dropping the first set against Sackett to take the second 6-3, but Sackett held on in the tie breaker to win the match. Diiulio put up a fight at the No. 4 position, forcing Luther's Smith to take the first set to 7-6 but fell 6-3 in the second set. Luther continued the momentum in singles until freshman
Clair Moore stayed resilient at the No. 6 position to win the first set 7-6 and take the second with ease, 6-1, against Kiley Nolan, for her second-straight win this season.
The Duhawks travel to Pella, Iowa to play Central College on Saturday, Sept. 19 at 1 P.M.
