MADISON, Wis. (Jan. 18, 2021) – The Loras College men's basketball team (1-1) rallied back from a first-half deficit to secure a hard-fought road win against the Edgewood College Eagles (2-2) on Monday evening following a ten-point run in the heart of the second half that switched the momentum in favor of the Duhawks to defeat the Eagles, 67-65.

It took both teams a few minutes to get on the board, but the Eagles opened up the scoring and took and early 7-2 lead. Zach Deering stopped Edgewood's streak with a jumper but the Eagles responded and did not let up, taking a 19-6 lead halfway through the first half. David Grintjes helped get the Duhawks back into the mix with a jump shot and Rowan McGowen added two more points before hitting a three-pointer, cutting Edgewood's lead to 21-13 with 8:40 left in the half.

The Eagles continued to work on building the lead until Declan Ciurlik and Griffen Clark combined or ten points and pull within six points of Edgewood, 29-23, with 3:57 on the clock. Edgwood tried to pull away again but a foul beyond the arc for Clark set him up for three free-throws to cut the lead again and Cole Navigato hit two jump shots to pull within four points with just over a minute until halftime. The Eagles closed out the half with a layup in the final seconds and went into halftime with a 36-30 lead.

The Duhawks came out of the locker room looking to score and Jake Healy helped get it started, forcing a turnover and taking it to the hoop. Loras continued to chip away at the Eagles' lead and a pair of free-throws by McGowen tied the score 47-47 with 11:41 left, setting up Loras to take the lead. A free-throw from Clark gave the go-ahead point and Grintjes hit a jump shot to extend the lead 50-47 with 9:54 on the clock. Edgewood tied the game again with just over nine minutes remaining but Navigato sparked a run for the Duhawks, followed by a layup by Jackson Kolinski and a three-pointer from Nick Savage.

The Duhawks held the lead until the 3:17 mark when Edgewood tied it up 61-61 and pulled ahead 63-61 until McGowen hit another pair of free-throws to lead by one with 2:27 remaining. McGowen continued to grow the lead with a three-pointer heading into the final minute but the Eagles responded with two points to trail by one with 30 seconds remaining. McGowen drew a foul and went to the line with 17 seconds remaining, hitting a free-throw to make the score 67-65 and denied the Eagles two more attempts to take the lead, coming away with the win as time expired.

Navigato led the team with 14 points and seven rebounds, shooting 7-12 from the field, and McGowen added 12 points. Clark also scored in double figures for the Duhawks with 11 points and Cirulik had two blocks. Healy dished out five assists and came away with a team-high four steals.

The Duhawks travel to Buena Vista University on Saturday, Jan. 23 to open American Rivers Conference (A-R-C). Tip-off in Storm Lake is set for 2 P.M and links to live in-game coverage can be found HERE.
