WAVERLY, Iowa (Jan. 29, 2021) – The Loras College men's track and field team did not appear have missed a beat in its return to competition on Friday night as the Duhawks clocked four of Division III's top times and set new lifetime and program bests at the Friday Night Lights Meet, hosted by Wartburg College.

Josh Smith started his season off with two nation-leading marks, winning the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.88 seconds, just shy of the school record, and won the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.55. In the 800-meter run, the Duhawks added the top-two time in Division III as Mike Jasa joined Smith with his own No. 1 time of 1:52.70, leading the nation by more than two seconds and Carter Oberfoell finished second with a time of 1:55.50.

Ryan Rogers continued to show his prowess in the multi events, winning the long jump with a leap of 6.70 meters to situate him third in the national list, and added a win in the pole vault with a lifetime best jump of 4.61 meters to rank third in program history and second nationally.

Luke Guttormson recorded the fourth fastest time in program history in the 3,000-meter run, running 8:39.63 for a lifetime best and third-place finish, and Matt Bandy added a third-place finish in the high jump with a lifetime best leap of 1.91 meters. Derik Bunten placed second in the triple jump with a jump of 12.81 meters in his first collegiate meet.

The 4-by-400-meter relay team of Smith, Oberfoell, Jasa and Shamari Scott ended the meet in similar fashion to how the Duhawks started the evening, atop the national leader board, winning the event with a time of 3:22.34.

Loras will take the short trip down the street to the University of Dubuque on Saturday, Feb. 6, competing against the Spartans and Simpson College. Events begin at noon at A.Y McDonald Indoor Track.
