Oct. 12, 2021 – The Loras College women's tennis team (7-4, 5-3 A-R-C) closed out the American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) regular season on Tuesday with a 7-2 home win against crosstown rival the University of Dubuque (2-12, 0-7 A-R-C).
The Duhawks breezed through doubles play to open the afternoon with
Lauren Diiulio and
Isabel Schwabe winning the No. 1 match against Alyssa Stevenson and Patient Jabbah, 8-0, and
Sara Backus and
Dorothy Deans defeated Reese Gottman and Jordyn Cory at No. 2, 8-0.
Clair Moore and
Alex Oestreich scored an 8-0 win against Lauren Colon and Regina Kadima at No. 3 to go 3-0 heading into singles.
The Spartans grabbed two singles matches at No. 5 and 6, but Loras remained in control to close out the match. Schwabe defeated Cory 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 and Deans won her match at No. 3 against Colon 6-1, 6-0. Diiulio battled back for a three-set win against Stevenson at No. 1, 2-6, 7-6, 10-5 and
Maura Kapala scored her first collegiate win with a 6-0, 3-6, 10-8 win at No. 4 against Jabbah.
The Duhawks head to the A-R-C Individual Championship on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 15-16 in Sioux City, Iowa. Matches begin at 9 A.M and will span three locations.
