Oct. 2, 2021 - The No.14/17 Loras College women's soccer team (10-0-1, 2-0-0 A-R-C) took the field Saturday evening against the Simpson College Storm (6-4-1, 0-1-0) in their second American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) matchup of the season. The Duhawks celebrated Homecoming Weekend in dominant fashion over the Storm, securing a 3-0 shutout win to improve to 10-0-1 and remain unbeaten on the season.
Senior forward
Brynn Jacobi wasted no time putting the Duhawks on the board early in the first half as
Emily Perhats squared up for a shot that deflected off of Simpson goalkeeper Brenny Frederick and into Jacobi's lap and into the back of the net to put Loras up 1-0 in the 17th minute.
The two teams went into the halftime break with the score still at 1-0, but
Ryleigh O'Brien added another to the Duhawks' lead in the 65th minute as
Hannah Schmitz fed a perfect pass to O'Brien, who touched it to herself and hit a missile of a volley to go ahead 2-0.
In the closing minutes of the game, the Duhawks took advantage of a throw-in in their attacking zone, seeing Jacobi launch a throw into the box to the head of O'Brien, who immediately touched to
Caitlin Farrell who put it past the goalkeeper to widen the lead at 3-0 in the 84th minute and solidify the shutout win for the Duhawks.
The Duhawks fired off 13 shots in the game with six reaching goal while holding the Storm to just three shots on goal in which
Megan Wick saved each in net. Jacobi's goal marks her seventh of the season while O'Brien and Farrell both tallied their third.
Loras is set to square off against crosstown rival University of Dubuque on Wednesday, Oct. 6. The game is scheduled to begin at 5:00 PM at the Rock Bowl.
