Swim and Dive Takes on Coe in A-R-C Dual Meet

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (Oct. 29, 2021) - The Loras College swim and dive teams were on the road Friday night as they went head-to-head with the Kohawks from Coe College in an American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) dual meet. On the men's side, the Duhawks brought home a 128.5-102.5 victory while the women were narrowly edged by a mere 10 points at 102-92. 

The women got things going in the the 200 yard medley relay, with the relay team of Molly Strohmeyer, Elli Stine, Artie Kerchmar and Kendra Sirriani taking first with a 2:08.77 finish. In the men's race, Jon Broas, Noah James, Brian Day and Zach Nelson took first with a 1:49.27 final time. 

In the men's 1,000 yard freestyle, freshman Austin Jorgensen posted an 11:39.84 time to place second while Christopher Grunke followed in third with a 12:33.66 finish. 

Junior Nina Schiro posted a second place finish in the 200 yard freestyle event, finishing in 2:07.83 while Morgan Haus followed in third with a 2:23.07 time. In the men's race, sophomore Brad LaGrange took second with a 1:54.60 final time while Roberto Solis came in third after finishing in 2:07.50. 

Amber Forbort earned a second place finish in the women's 50 yard freestyle after finishing narrowly behind Coe's Izzy Craig with a finishing time of 27.66. Ann Quinn placed third in the same event, coming in closely behind Forbort with a 28.14 finish. In the men's race, Charles Holmes and Kevin McMillan earned second and third place finishes after finishing closely wihtin each other with Holmes touching the wall in 24.44 and McMillan finishing in 24.68. 

In the women's 200 yard individual medley, Elli Stine took the win in a head-to-head matchup with Coe's Supy Patel, seeing Stine and Patel race to the finish with Stine finishing in 2:39.10 and Patel in 2:39.65 to see the Duhawks earn the win in the event. In the men's race, Nelson took second with a 2:16.78 final time while Broas followed in third with a 2:20.63 time. 

Senior diver Nicholas Schlader took the win in the men's one meter dive, tallying a total of 140.02 points while sophomore Gannon Harrington followed in second with 133.20 points. 

Forbort took second in the women's 100 yard butterfly event, finishing in 1:09.24 while Stine took third in the event with a 1:12.09 time. On the men's side James recorded a 1:00.81 time to finish second while teammate Spencer Kakacek came in behind in third with a 1:02.46 time. 

Sirriani placed second in the women's 100 yard freestyle event, finishing with a 1:04.19 time while Quinn came in right behind in 1:04.62. In the men's race, the Duhawks took the top two spots in the event with LaGrange placing first with a 50.85 time and Holmes finishing in 55.73. 

In the women's 100 yard backstroke, Schiro beat Coe's Sydney Lage by over six seconds with her 1:04.05 time to take first in the event while McMillan took second in the men's race with a 1:00.81 time. In the same event, Broas came in at third with his 1:03.12 final time. 

In the women's 500 yard freestyle, Strohmeyer took second in the event after finishing in 6:04.30 while Nelson clocked in at 5:28.76 in the men's race to also earn a second place finish. 

Harrington and Schlader took the top two finishes in the men's three meter dive event, with Harrington bringing home the win with 135.97 points while Schlader narrowly took second in the event with 135.67 points. 

Kerchmar earned a first place finish in the women's 100 yard breaststroke, finishing two seconds ahead of Coe's Patel with a 1:21.09 time while Day also placed first in the men's race with a 1:06.41 time. 

The women's 200 yard freestyle relay saw the team of Schiro, Quinn, Forbort and Strohmeyer take first after finishing in 1:49.04 while LaGrange, Jorgensen, McMillan and Holmes took second on the men's side with a 1:34.56 time. 

The Duhawks are back in action on Friday, Nov. 5 as they travel to Lincoln, Neb. to take on the Nebraska Wesleyan University Prairie Wolves in a two-day dual meet. The meets will take place inside the Weary Natatorium.
