DECORAH, Iowa (Feb. 13, 2021) – The No. 3-ranked Loras College men's track and field team won its second-straight American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) triangular at Luther College on Saturday, racking up points with ten individual event wins and highlighted by a program top-ten performance by sophomore
Neal Eckhoff in the weight throw.
Eckhoff led the way with the Duhawks claiming the top four spots in the weight throw, posting a heave of 16.44 meters to rank seventh in program history and 14th in Division III this season.
Holden Murphy finished second with a personal best toss of 13.46 meters,
Theo Davis placed third (11.53 meters) and Hunter Rowray fourth (10.89 meters). Davis won the shot put with a throw of 13.60 meters followed by Eckhoff (13.29 meters), Murphy (12.60 meters) and
Zac Couture (11.12 meters).
On the track,
Josh Smith continued to showcase his strengths, winning the 55-meter dash with a time of 6.49 seconds and led teammates
De'Andre Klein (6.62),
Shamari Scott (6.66) and
Ray Venditti (6.71) to sweep the top-four finishes. Scott took his turn to lead the way in the 200-meter dash, winning the event in a personal-best time of 22.94 followed by Venditti (23.02) and
Ted Kruse (23.26) in second and third, respectively.
Mike Jasa helped the Duhawks to another dominating performance in the 400-meter dash, winning the event in 49.13 followed by Smith (49.62),
Carter Oberfoell (50.71),
Jake Willkomm (51.44) and
Conor Otting (52.44) to claim the top-five spots while
Ryan Harvey (4:20.24) and
Wyatt Kelly (4:21.11) ran personal best times in the mile run to finish first and second.
Ethan Hammerand followed suit in the mile with a third-place finish, clocking a time of 4:34.26.
The 4-by-400-meter relay team of
Carson Vaske, Smith, Kruse and Jasa won the event with a time of 3:23.50 to cap the meet off with another Duhawk victory while
Ryan Rogers demonstrated his versatility in the multi events, winning the 55-meter hurdles (7.93), the high jump (1.95 meters) and the long jump (6.55 meters).
Logan Jones posted a second-place finish in the pole vault with a personal best jump of 3.80 meters.
Loras won the meet with 129.50 points, topping the host Norse with 84.50 points and Coe with 59.
The Duhawks continue A-R-C competition on Saturday, Feb. 20 at Wartburg College against the No. 1-ranked Knights and No. 17 ranked Nebraska Wesleyan University. Events begin at 10 A.M.
