PELLA, Iowa (Feb. 27, 2021) – The No. 3-ranked Loras College men's track and field team completed the regular season sweep of American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) triangular meets on Saturday, seeing multiple competitors score lifetime bests in the final tune-up at Central College ahead of upcoming the A-R-C Championship.
Josh Smith remained undefeated in the 60-meter dash, winning the race in 6.90 seconds and
Carter Oberfoell won the 800-meter run with a time of 1:58.49 followed by
Wyatt Kelly in second (1:58.70). Â Rogers brought his success from the field events to the track and added another victory in the 60-meter hurdles (8.33).
Ryan Harvey finished second in the mile run with a time of 4:21.15, just shy of his personal best, and
Jake Willkomm added a second-place finish in the 400-meter dash (51.72).
Ray Venditti had a personal-best performance of 22.90 to place second in the 200-meter dash.
Ryan Rogers won the long jump with a leap of 6.96 meters, a season best and good for eighth in Division III, and led the Duhawks to take the top-three spots with
Derik Bunten placing second (6.37 meters) and
Doyle Carroll finishing third (6.34 meters). Bunten set a new personal best in the triple jump (13.05 meters) to finish second and
Neal Eckhoff added a personal best toss in the weight throw (16.52 meters) to win the event. Rogers also won the high jump (1.95 meters) to lead another first through third finish for Loras in the event, followed by
Alex Martens (1.85 meters) in second and
Matt Bandy (1.80 meters) in third.
The Duhawks won the meet with 119.5 points, besting the host Dutch with 104.5 points and Buena Vista University with 53.
Loras will now shift focus to the A-R-C Championship on Saturday, Mar. 7 at Wartburg College. This year's championship features a two-day format with the women competing Saturday and the men competing Sunday. For more information about the championship, click
