GREENDALE, Wis. (Feb. 6, 2021) – Fueled by strong doubles play to open with a 3-0 lead that carried over into singles, the Loras College men's tennis team (1-0) kicked off the 2021 season with a 7-2 win against the Milwaukee School of Engineering Raiders (0-2) on Saturday.
Loras swept doubles action with
Kevin Blomquist and
Thomas Kampmier defeating Alec Dam and Parker Kuhlman at the No. 1 spot, 8-6, and
Tommy Linkenheld and
Joe Schneider taking the win at No. 2 against Alex Nakasato and Connor Splingaire, 8-4.
Connor Pivnicka and
Sean Gelski battled through to an 8-7 win against Josh Fay and Ryan Emerich at the No. 3 position, setting Loras up with the momentum heading into singles play.
Linkenheld kept it rolling for Loras in singles, winning his No. 2 match against Kuhlman, 6-4, 6-0, but the Raiders came back to win the No. 6 and No. 5 matches right after. The Duhawks denied MSOE any more wins for the rest of the match with Kampmier scoring his first college win with a 6-3, 1-6, 13-11 grind of at No. 4. Blomquist followed with his 6-3, 6-3 win against Dam at the No. 1 position and Schneider rounded out the day for Loras with a win at No. 3 singles, defeating Nakasato 6-3, 7-5.
Loras returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 13, traveling to Bloomington, Ill. to play Illinois Wesleyan University and Greenville University.
