Mar. 27, 2021 - In their first match in over a year, the Loras College women's soccer team (1-0-0, 1-0-0 A-R-C) opened their 2020 (Spring 2021) season at the Rock Bowl on Saturday for a midday matchup against the Nebraska Wesleyan University Prairie Wolves (0-1-0, 0-1-0 A-R-C). The Duhawks out shot the Prairie Wolves 32-4 in the match, taking a 2-0 victory over the American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) foe.
The Duhawks led a consistent attack on net in the first half but the match remained scoreless until the 33rd minute when
Bella Talbot marched the ball down the right side of the field before centering a pass that deflected off of a Nebraska Wesleyan defender and at the foot of returning A-R-C Offensive MVP
Brynn Jacobi. Jacobi rifled a shot on net for the Duhawks' first goal of the half.
Ten minutes later in the 43rd minute of the match,
Payton McDonnell carried the ball into the box and drew a foul, committed by Nebraska Wesleyan's Trenan Wilson that gave the Duhawks a penalty shot. McDonnell found the back of the net with a perfectly placed ball past the goalkeeper to give the Duhawks a 2-0 advantage going in to halftime.
The match stayed tied through the second half, with the Duhawks taking 21 total shots, 17 of which were on goal but didn't find the back of the net to widen the margin.
Jacobi and McDonnell netted a goal for the Duhawks while Talbot posted the only assist in the match.
Caitlin Farrell and
Emily Perhats each had four shots on goal for the Duhawks while
Abby Eriksen added three and
Ryleigh O'Brien and Jacobi had two.
The Duhawks are back in action on Tuesday, Mar. 30 as they host the Luther College Norse at the Rock Bowl. The match is scheduled to kick-off at 7:30 PM in Dubuque, Iowa.
