STORM LAKE, Iowa (Mar. 28, 2021) - The Loras College softball team (0-10, 0-6 A-R-C) made the trip back to Storm Lake on Sunday afternoon to take on the Buena Vista University Beavers (11-7, 3-3 A-R-C). Sophomore
Abigail Bergholz led the Duhawks at the plate with a season-high two hits in the game, going 2-3 with one RBI and a double on the day.
The game remained scoreless after the first inning with the Duhawks defense going to work in the bottom of the first to fend off the Beavers. Buena Vista went on to score two runs in the bottom of the second inning on an RBI double and an infield ground out with bases loaded that scored the second run of the inning.
The Duhawks responded in the top of the third inning with
Hadalyn Anderson drawing a walk to lead off the inning. A wild pitch advanced Henderson to second to bring Bergholz to the plate with one out. Bergholz lined a double to the gap in left center to score Anderson from second and cut the deficit to one. In the bottom half of the inning, Buena Vista added five runs to their lead to go ahead 7-1.
Five more runs crossed the plate for Buena Vista in the bottom of the fourth inning but the Duhawks quickly answered in the top of the fifth inning. With one out in the inning,
Gabriella Garcia reached first on an infielder error that brought Bergholz back up to the plate. Bergholz reached first and advanced Garcia to second on a single to the shortstop to bring
Nicole Bendig to bat for the Duhawks. Bendig grounded out to the shortstop but moved the runners to put two in scoring position for
Grace Houghton who put a ball into left center field to score Bergholz and Garcia to bring the score to the final 12-3 score.
Bergholz went 2-3 on the day with two hits and one RBI while Houghton added two RBIs with a 1-3 performance at the plate. Bergholz and Garcia each notched doubles for the Duhawks.

Ashley Winter utilized two pitchers in the game with
Taylor Donnell making the start, throwing 3.0 innings allowing seven runs on ten hits before Bendig took the circle for 1.0 inning with one strikeout and five runs on six hits.
The Duhakws are set to host the Simpson College Storm at Faber-Clark Field on Thursday, Apr. 1. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 2:00 PM in Dubuque, Iowa.
