INDIANOLA, Iowa (Apr. 25, 2021) - The Loras College men's soccer team (5-0-3, 5-0-3 A-R-C) went head-to-head with the Simpson College Storm (3-2-2, 3-2-2 A-R-C) on Sunday evening in their final American Rivers Conference matchup of the regular season. Sophomore defender
Lucas Sampson notched his first career goal in the 80th minute of the match as the Duhawks and Storm came to a 3-3 draw after two overtime periods.
The first goal of the match went in favor of the Duhawks as a deflected header by a Simpson defender found the back of the net for an own goal to put Loras up 1-0 in the 13th minute.
Michael Brandt netted his third goal of the season after
Jared Block and
Patrick Clancy set up a perfect play to put a cross into the box where Brandt put his head on the ball to put the Duhawks up 2-0 going into halftime.
Simpson came out in the second half and cut the deficit to one in the 48th minute on a goal from Enrique Idehen, followed by the equalizer in the 59th minute from Jordy Triana-Vasquez.
The score remained tied for the next 20 minutes before Sampson charged the ball down field on a breakaway and rifled a shot on goal from ten yards out to put the Duhawks up 3-2 with ten minutes left in the match.
Mason Madren scored the third goal for Simpson in the closing minutes of the match to force the game into double overtime where the score held at an even 3-3.
Loras took 16 shots in the match, putting 13 on goal while holding the Storm to only five shots on goal. Clancy led the attack for the Duhawks with four shots on goal, followed by
Juan Jose Arias Mondragon who had three of his own while Brandt and Sampson amassed a goal apiece in the match.
Seth Kurzynski played the full 110 minutes in net, seeing 16 total shots from the Storm, making two saves on five shots on goal.
