Duhawks Round Out Weekend in Pella Against Dutch

Contact: Nathan Cameron, Assistant Director of Athletic Communications, 563-588-7243

PELLA, Iowa (Apr. 25, 2021) - The Loras College softball team (1-20, 1-16 A-R-C) concluded their weekend against the Central College Dutch (13-7, 11-5 A-R-C) with a single game matchup Sunday afternoon. Holding the Dutch to just two runs in the game, the Duhawks fell by one run at 2-1.

The Duhawks were first to put a run on the board in the top of the third inning after Abigail Bergholz drew a walk with two outs in the inning before Alexus Jensen reached first after being hit by a pitch to put two runners on the path for Gabriella Garcia. With the count full, Garcia lined a single into center field that scored Bergholz from second to give Loras a 1-0 lead.

The score remained in the Duhawks' favor until the bottom of the fifth inning as the Dutch tied the game up at 1-1 on an RBI single and again in the bottom of the sixth inning on an RBI double to take the game 2-1.

Taylor Donnell threw 5.1 innings in the circle, allowing two runs on seven hits with two strikeouts on the day before Kayla Stich faced the final two batters of the game.

Jessica Bulanda led the bats with a double, going 1-3 on the day while Hadalynn Anderson, Abby Jones, Grace Houghton, Garcia, and Ellie Schill each tabbed a hit apiece with Garcia driving in the lone RBI.

The Duhawks return home to Faber-Clark Field on Thursday, Apr. 29 as they face the University of Dubuque Spartans. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
