PELLA, Iowa (Apr. 27, 2021) – The Loras College women's tennis team (7-5, 4-3 A-R-C) played a tight match through doubles play in the quarterfinal of the 2021 American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) AQ Tournament on Tuesday against Central College (6-5, 5-3 A-R-C) and forged a comeback bid in singles action, but the Dutch rallied back to hold the edge with two singles wins to claim the match, 5-2.
It was a close battle in doubles play as
Audrey Hinz and
Lauren Diiulio and
Sara Backus and
Clair Moore at No. 1 and 2, respectively, took their matches to 8-6 but came up on the wrong end of the decision and
Alexandra Oestreich and
Isabel Schwabe forced the No. 3 match to 8-5. Central came out of doubles with a 3-0 lead, but Hinz started the comeback surge for Loras with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 1 against Karleigh Schilling and Diiulio won the No. 3 match against Alyssa Lewton, 6-4, 6-3. The Dutch rallied back and claimed the No. 4 and No. 6 matches to clinch the win, leaving the rest of the slate unfinished.
Loras concludes the 2020-21 season with an overall record of 7-5, 4-3 in conference as well as the C-Flight Singles Champion at the A-R-C Individual Tournament, five All-Conference selections and two Player of the Week honors.
