DECORAH, Iowa (Apr. 3, 2021) – The Loras College football team (2-0, 1-0 A-R-C) started the American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) slate with a 45-21 win on the road against the Luther College Norse (0-1) as the Duhawks posted an offensive barrage in the second half to run away with the victory.
Ty Bausch opened the scoring for the Duhawks with a 40-yard run to the endzone at the 7:09 mark in the first quarter before
Noah Sigwarth connected with
Kabryn Cook for a 34-yard completion, resulting in another Duhawk touchdown. The Norse closed out the quarter with a touchdown but
Brett Bower gave the Duhawks possession back with an interception off Luther's opening drive. Luther rallied back and posted the only points of the game in the second quarter to knot the score 14-14 heading into the locker room.
Luther started the third quarter with a touchdown at the 13:18 mark, taking their first lead of the contest, but the Duhawks grabbed a safety for two more points and
Nicolas Farfan drilled a 22-yard field goal to bring Loras back within two points with 2:24 remaining in the quarter.
Trevor Schwiesow came into the game at quarterback and found Cook for his second touchdown of the game, catching a 17-yard pass to put Loras up 25-21 with under a minute remaining in the quarter. The Duhawks kept it rolling in the final quarter with a one-yard rush by Bausch and 11-yard dash to the endzone for
Eric Hradek to pull away 38-21 with 4:55 left to play and
Hareson Willis scored his first career touchdown off an 18-yard completion by Schwiesow with 2:25 left in the game. The Duhawks kept the Norse scoreless as time expired, coming away with the conference win.
Sigwarth and Schwiesow split time at quarterback with 227 combined passing yards, highlighted by two passing touchdowns for Schwiesow. Bausch led the run game with 78 yards and two touchdowns and Cook posted 106 receiving yards with his two touchdowns. Defensively,
Josh Kieffer led the team with ten tackles and
Josh Jones had eight while he,
Jack Foley and
Mason Morris each posted one pass breakup.
The Duhawks return to the Rock Bowl with more A-R-C action on Apr. 10, hosting crosstown rival the University of Dubuque at 1 P.M.
