Apr. 30, 2021 – Continuing to set new program precedents, the Loras College women's lacrosse team secured the Duhawks' first Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference (MWLC) Player of the Year award as senior
Kayla Tilkes was recognized as the Defensive Player of the Year and five players were named All-Conference selections, each earning their first career awards.
Tilkes, a senior out of Evergreen Park, Ill., led the league with 42 caused turnovers and finished second in the conference in ground balls (62). She holds the single-game record for caused turnovers (11) and ranks third in single-game ground balls (12). All-time, she is third in career ground balls (158) and second in caused turnovers (118). Tilkes was a Player of the Week honoree in 2021 becomes the program's first Player of the Year honoree as well as a First Team selection.
Earning First Team nods,
Clare Brunn, a junior from Rochester, Minn., was a three-time Player of the Week award winner and led the conference with 49 goals and shot 54 percent on the season. She also grabbed 25 draw controls, 25 ground balls and was 5-9 on free position goals. She ranks second in single game records for goals (9), third in points (10) and sits third in goals for a single season (57) and fourth in points (62). In her career, she is third for points (140), goals (126), eighth in assists (14), eighth in draw controls (35) and third in free position goals (17).
Marianne Gleason had a strong sophomore campaign as the team's leader at the draw circle, grabbing 71 draw controls to rank second in the league. She also had 43 ground balls on the season. The Clovis, Calif. native rounded out Loras' First Team selections and ranks eighth in single-game draw controls (10), ties for second in a single season (71) and is fourth in career draw controls with 73.
A Second Team honoree,
Katlynne Wolf made a statement in the record book this season as the program's single game, season and all-time leader for assists, tallying 43 this season and 75 during her time as a Duhawk. She led the MWLC in assists, including a 10-assist performance in Loras' win against Cornell College. The Park Ridge, Ill. native ranks fourth all-time for points (109) and eighth in goals (32).
Leah Hood collected her first career All-Conference honor after helping the defense limit opponents' shooting percentage to 37 percent and coming away with 113 caused turnovers to regain critical possession. Playing in all 11 games for Loras, the Oak Lawn, Ill. native had 21 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers. She was selected as an Honorable Mention and All-Sportsmanship honoree.
The Duhawks were set to compete in the MWLC Tournament for the first time in program history before the season ended due to COVID-19 protocols. Loras finished the season with a record of 6-3 and 3-4 in MWLC play and collected seven Player of the Week honors, including three award sweeps, in 2021.
