May 4, 2021 – The Loras College men's tennis team (10-7, 5-3 A-R-C) forced a down to the wire battle in the 2021 American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) AQ Tournament quarterfinal match against Wartburg College (11-12, 4-4 A-R-C) on Tuesday but came up one match short, falling to the Knights, 5-4, at the Tucker Tennis Courts.
Wartburg took the No. 1 doubles match but the Duhawks pulled ahead with a 2-1 lead after doubles play with
Tommy Linkenheld and
Konnor Barth taking the No. 2 match against Cade Davis and Hunter Gerhardt, 8-2, and
Eian Coad and
Connor Pivnicka scored an 8-3 win against Jared Hefel and Nile Petersen at No. 3. In singles, the Knights pulled ahead, 3-2 with wins at No. 1 and 2 but Barth tied it up with a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 5 against Hefel. Wartburg regained the lead with the win at No. 3 before Coad notched a win for Loras at No. 6, defeating Sam Yoon, 6-3, 6-4 leaving the deciding match up to the No. 4 matchup of
Joe Schneider and Wartburg's Petersen. Schneider took the first set, 6-3 but Petersen rallied back for a 7-6 win in the second set and held the momentum in the third to clinch the win for Wartburg.
Loras concludes the season with a 10-7 overall record and 4-4 in A-R-C action.Â
