May 7, 2021 – In the final regular season meet before the American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) Championship in one week, the No. 9-ranked Loras College men's track and field team had the chance to compete at home and saw success across multiple events at the Dr. Tucker Open while celebrating its seniors on Friday afternoon.
Josh Smith got things rolling for the Duhawks as he won the 200-meter dash in a time of 21.89 seconds. Senior
Shamari Scott (49.24 seconds),
Jake Willkomm (49.57 seconds) and
Carter Oberfoell (49.66 seconds) swept the top-three spots in the 400-meter dash and
Mike Jasa led a 1-3-4 finish for the Duhawks in the 800-meter run, winning the race in 1:52.24 followed by
Wyatt Kelly placing third (1:54.04).
Will Yasdick added a third-place finish in the 1,500-meter run (4:00.49) and
Ryan Rogers was the runner-up in the 110-meter hurdles, running 15.29 seconds.
The 4-by-100-meter relay of
De'Andre Klein, Willkomm, Scott and Smith won the race with a time of 41.67, good for third all-time and 15th nationally and the 4-by-400-meter relay of
Carson Vaske, Kelly, Jasa and Scott took the win in a time of 3:16.55. In the field events,
Holden Murphy won the discus with a throw of 45.33 meters and
Logan Jones placed first in the pole vault (3.70 meters) while
Matt Bandy placed third in the high jump (1.91 meters), Smith finished third in the long jump (6.75 meters) and
Alex Martens was the runner-up in the javelin (44.11 meters).
The Duhawks now turn their attention to the A-R-C Championship, hosted by the University of Dubuque, beginning May 14.
