Sept. 15, 2021 – The Loras College men's tennis team (1-1) secured a 7-2 home court win on Wednesday against the Saint Ambrose University Bees (0-1) in the final tune-up before the American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) Individual Tournament in just over a week.
The Duhawks took a 2-1 lead after doubles with
Kevin Blomquist and
Thomas Kampmier defeating Brian Lelm and Greyson Piotrowski at No. 1, 8-3 and
Konnor Barth and
Nolan Teubel defeated Jack Schieferdecker and Caleb Hoffman, 8-5 at No. 2.
In singles play,
Joe Schneider grabbed the first win for the Duhawks at No. 4 singles with a 6-3, 6-1 win against Piotrowski followed by
Eian Coad winning the No. 5 match, 6-1, 6-4 against Jacob Deckers. The Bees took the No. 1 singles match but the Duhawks did not let up from there on out, with
Riley Collins winning a 7-5, 6-4 barn burner at No. 2 against Schieferdecker,
Sean Gelski winning 6-3, 6-3 at No. 6 against Jimmy Boustead and
Tommy Linkenheld taking a 6-0, 6-2 win against Caleb Hoffman at No. 3.
Loras will shift focus to the A-R-C Individual Tournament beginning Friday, Sept. 24 and running through Saturday, Sept. 25. The Duhawks return 2019 C-Flight Singles champion Coad in the lineup as well as Collins and Gelski, the B-Flight Doubles medalists from 2020. Collins was also a B-flight singles medalist in 2019.
