MONMOUTH, Ill. (Sept. 28, 2021) - The No.14/17 Loras College women's soccer team (9-0-1, 1-0-0 A-R-C) closed out non-conference play on the road Tuesday night as they traveled to Monmouth, Ill. to face off against the Monmouth College Fighting Scots (1-8-0, 0-0-0 Midwest). The Duhawks' 5-1 victory over the Scots marked their sixth straight, highlighted by senior attacker
Brynn Jacobi who tallied her first hat trick of the season.
Jacobi's first goal of the evening came not even a minute into of the game as a Scots foul lined
Payton McDonnell up for a free kick. McDonnell continued to prove how dangerous she is on set pieces, putting a ball into the box that deflected off a Monmouth defender to the head of
Hannah Schmitz, who found
Abby Eriksen in the box whose header deflected again off of a Monmouth defender and into Jacobi's lap to put the Duhawks up 1-0 from the get-go.
Shortly after her first goal, Jacobi struck again in the 17th minute on another pass from Eriksen to give the pair their second assist-goal combo in the game to put Loras up 2-0 where the score stayed going into halftime.
Ten minutes into the second half, the senior from Roscoe, Ill. scored her third and final goal of the game on a long ball from
Olivia Lansing, poking it past Monmouth goalkeeper Quinn Cutler to solely put the Duhawks up by three in the 56th minute.
Ryleigh O'Brien had her turn to score in the 72nd minute of the game on a pass from
Rylee Quillen that found the back of the net for her second goal of the season, padding the Duhawks' lead at 4-0 late in the game.
With less than ten minutes left, freshman
Abby Schafer found herself crashing the Monmouth net on a breakaway and put it past the keeper for her first collegiate goal wearing the purple and gold, putting the score at a comfortable 5-0.
With four seconds left in the game, Monmouth took advantage of a handball in the box to set up for a penalty kick to avoid the shutout with a goal from Hadyn DeLeeuw.
The Duhawks hammered the Monmouth net, taking 28 total shots in the game with 15 on goal while holding the Scots to just three total, two reaching the net. Jacobi led the Duhawks with seven shots on the night with O'Brien taking five of her own and
Emily Perhats following with three. Jacobi's three-goal performance Tuesday night brings her total to five on the season thus far.
