Sept. 4, 2021 - After opening the season with a 2-0 victory over the St. Norbert Green Knights (0-1-0, 0-0-0 NACC) on Wednesday, the Loras College women's soccer team (2-0-0, 0-0-0 A-R-C) played host to the Dominican University Stars Saturday afternoon. In their first home game of the season, the Duhawks secured a 1-0 win thanks to
Brynn Jacobi, who netted her first goal of the season to see the Duhawks improve to 2-0-0.
The Duhawks got off to an early jump pressuring the Dominican defense, getting off a total of 11 shots in the first half before a hard foul by the Stars' Gabby Green saw her receive the game's only yellow card in the 33rd minute to put
Payton McDonnell at the free kick for Loras. McDonnell placed a perfect pass into the box for
Erin Rieckens, who passed across the front of the net to find Jacobi and rifle a shot past Dominican goalkeeper Ashley Ishman to go ahead 1-0 going into the halftime break.
The second half saw more domination from the Duhawks' offense, but the game remained 1-0 in favor of the Duhawks. The Loras defense completely shut down any offensive effort the Stars had, highlighted by goalkeeper
Kyndal Kells who turned away all three shots on goal she faced to record her second clean sheet of the season.
Loras returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 5 as they head to Moorhead, Minn. to face Concordia College in a non-conference matchup. The match is slated to being at 1:00 PM.
