Swim and Dive Celebrates Seniors Against Luther College

Jan. 15, 2022 - In their final home meet of the 2021-22 season, the Loras College men's and women's swimming and diving teams celebrated their seniors on Senior Day as they played host to American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) foe Luther College. The men's team finished the season with a record of 4-5 in dual action while the women closed out their year going 3-6. 

The first event of the day was the women's 200-yard medley relay that saw Annie Quinn, Artie Kerchmar, Elli Stine and Morgan Haus earn two points for the Duhawks with their 2:07.53 finish while in the men's race, Jonathan Broas, Brian Day, Noah James and Brad LaGrange took second with a final time of 1:44.85. 

In the women's 1,000-yard freestyle, Molly Strohmeyer finished third with a 12:38.06 time while followed closely behind by teammate Taylor Hrabak who tallied a 12:45.21 time. In the men's race, Austin Jorgensen and Roberto Solis finished second and third, respectively, with Jorgensen finishing in 11:44.39 and Solis in 12:18.12 to combine for seven team points. 

Kinsey Bogen took second in the women's 200-yard freestyle with her 2:09.71 time while Day led the way for the Duhawks with his fourth place finish in 2:03.31. Nina Schiro excelled in the 50-yard freestyle for Loras, finishing second with a 27.08 time, around a half-second behind Luther's top finisher Nev Nelson. On the men's side, LaGrange emerged victorious with a 22.61 finish while Charles Holmes finished thrid with a 24.19 mark. 

In the women's 400-yard individual medley, Stine tallied a 5:43.10 time for a second place finish while Zach Nelson did the same in the men's race with his 4:55.45 time. 

In the women's 1-meter dive, Tanner Carter walked away with a pair of points to add to the team's total with a 63.65 score while Nicholas Schlader led the way for the men, taking first with a total of 131.35. Gannon Harrington finished the first portion of dives in second with a 124.35 score while James McArthur took third with an 89.80 score. 

The men's 200-yard butterfly saw Loras's James take second with a time of 2:14.46 while Christopher Grunke, Jr. came in fourth with a 2:19.53 finish. The women's 100-yard freestyle saw Bogen and Quinn finish second and third, respectively, with Bogen notching a 1:00.18 finish and Quinn finishing in 1:02.03 to come together for seven team points. LaGrange led the way in the men's race with a dominant 49.69 time to take first while Holmes took fourth with his 55.24 finish. 

In the women's 200-yard backstroke, Schiro again showed her excellence in the water with a commanding first-place finish, recording a 2:19.71 time while Broas finished third in the men's race with a final time of 2:15.81. The men's 500-yard freestyle saw Nelson take first with a 5:27.46 time for nine team points while Hrabak led the women's race for the Duhawks with a fourth place finish, recording a 6:07.56 time. 

In the second round of dives, Shlader took second with 170.15 points while Harrington placed third with a combined 128.20 score.

Kerchmar was the Duhawks' first finisher in the women's 200-yard breaststroke with a 2:48.54, a time good enough to place her second in the event. Day earned a first place finish in the men's race with a 2:26.64 time while Payton Markowski finished third in 2:36.24. 

In the final events of the day, the 200-yard freestyle relay, the women's team of Bogen, Hrabak, Strohmeyer and Schiro took second with a 1:49.85 time for four team points while the men's team of Jorgensen, Nelson, Broas and Holmes also took second, finishing in 1:37.80. 

The men's team narrowly fell to the Norse with a tight final score of 126-107 in favor of Luther while the women's team fell 174-51. 

The Duhawks are back in action on Feb. 9 as they travel to Decorah, Iowa to compete in the A-R-C Swimming and Diving Invitational, hosted by Luther College. The four-day meet is set to run through Feb. 12.
