CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (Jan. 27, 2022) - After being named the top-ranked team in NCAA Division III in the National Wrestling Coaches Assocation (NWCA) dual rankings, the No. 1 Loras College wrestling team (10-0, 5-0 A-R-C) headed to Cedar Rapids, Iowa to take on the Prairie Wolves from Nebraska Wesleyan University. The Duhawks earned their tenth-straight victory with a dominant 55-0 shutout over the Prairie Wolves, grabbing seven victories by fall.
Justin Murray took on Isaiah Graves in the first match of the day at 125 lbs. and made quick work of his opponent, winning in 1:27 by fall.
Aiden Evans followed suit in the 133 lb. matchup against Christian Keller with a pin of his own in the closing seconds of the first period to extend the Duhawks' lead to 12-0.
No. 14-ranked
Jalen Schropp went toe-to-toe with Christian Deherrera at 141 lbs. and earned five points with a tech fall before No. 9-ranked
Daniel Ruiz and No. 7
Zeke Smith grabbed a pair of wins by major decision to put the Duhawks ahead 25-0 at the halfway point of the dual.
At 165 lbs., No. 14-ranked
Gabe Fiser went up against Cade Kammerer and started a string of five-straight pins for the Duhawks, pinning Kammerer in 2:18.
Jacob Krakow, the No. 3-ranked wrestler at 174 lbs. pinned his opponent in Brody Dickinson in 3:35 to bring up No. 2
Shane Liegel at 184 lbs. who earned a first period pin over Drake Stuhr.
Derek Venteicher saw action in the 197 lbs. match against Jacoby Hines and had the second-quickest win by fall, winning in 1:42 before
Dakoda Powell rounded out the match with a 2:35 pin over Nate Fredenburg to solidify the 55-0 victory.
The Duhawks return to the mat on Saturday, Jan. 29 as they host the Loras Open. The tournament is scheduled to begin at 9:00 AM inside the Graber Center. A reminder for all spectators that per Loras College campus safety guidelines that masks are required at all times while indoors.
