No. 23/15 Duhawks Take Down Spartans 4-0 in Rivalry Match

Story by Nolan DeVriese - Loras Athletic Communications Student Assistant

Dubuque, Iowa (Oct. 10, 2022) – No. 23/15 Loras College women's soccer continued its winning streak in American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) play as the Duhawks dominated their crosstown rival Tuesday evening with a 4-0 win over University of Dubuque.

The Duhawks (10-0-3, 4-0-0- A-R-C) claim their sixth shutout of the season and their second straight win over the Spartans (4-2-7, 1-1-3 A-R-C). It's also their 10th straight victory over University of Dubuque.

Getting the Duhawks started was their leading scorer in senior forward Ryleigh O'Brien as her goal in the 29th minute, with an assist from senior defender Olivia Lansing, gave them a 1-0 lead. That would set the tone for the rest of the game as the Duhawks pilled on the scoring.

Loras' 1-0 lead didn't last long as another goal five minutes later by senior forward Erin Rieckens and extended the Duhawk lead and made it 2-0. The Duhawks played fast and added another goal by O'Brien in the 39th minute to give Loras a 3-0 lead before halftime. Senior's Caitlin Farrell and Payton McDonnell also tallied assist in the forst half as the Duhawks outshot the Spartans 17-9 in the frame.

There was nothing to show for the Duhawks early in the second half but in the 84th minute senior forward Abby Eriksen scored her sixth goal on the season on an assist by sophomore Lauren Riggle to lead 4-0. That would be all she wrote as the Duhawks claimed the Key City rivalry for the 10th time in a row.

The Duhawks look for their fifth straight win on Saturday, Oct. 15 when they return to the Rock Bowl and face A-R-C opponent Central College. Game time is set for 1 PM.
