Oct. 15, 2022 – For the fourth consecutive match, the No. 23/15 Loras College women's soccer team pitched a shutout as the Duhawks took down the Central College Dutch 3-0 on Saturday afternoon.
The Duhawks (11-0-3, 5-0-0 A-R-C) remained unbeaten on the season and out on another dominating display to beat the Dutch (7-5-2, 1-3-1 A-R-C) for the fifth time in a row in the series.
Loras held a 24-10 advantage in shots in the game, including a 14-1 differential in the second half. The Duhawks also earned 10 corner kick chances to the Dutch's two to control the possession battle for most of the game.
Senior forward
Ryleigh O'Brien got the Duhawks on the board in the 37
th minute as she settled a pass sophomore
Lauren Riggle before firing a shot to the upper left of the net to make it 1-0 in favor of Loras.
The goal for O'Brien is her A-R-C-leading 15
th of the season and marks her fourth straight game with at least one goal.
The Duhawks added on early in the second half as a pair of quick goals widened the margin to 3-0 as senior forward
Abby Eriksen cashed in in the 56
th minute on assists from juniors
Savannah Johnson and
Hannah Schmitz. Johnson headed a ball back toward the top of the box to set up the chance after a long throw in from Schmitz.
Just three minutes later in the 59
th minute, O'Brien played a ball into the box for senior forward
Caitlin Farrell, who finished the chance for her second score of the year to give Loras a 3-0 cushion to finish off the game.
Loras aims to keep their streak rolling next Wednesday, Oct. 19, when the Duhawks travel to Cedar Rapids, Iowa to face Coe College at 6 P.M.
