DECORAH, Iowa (Oct. 19, 2022) – Loras College's women's volleyball team was held in check in its road match on Wednesday night as the Luther College Norse earned a 3-0 sweep inside their home gym.
The loss snaps a three-game winning streak in the series for the Duhawks (6-17, 0-6 A-R-C) while the Norse (6-16, 1-4 A-R-C) earned their first win in American Rivers Conference play this season.
Luther got hot midway through the first set and rattled off a pair of big scoring runs, one lasting for eight consecutive points and another going for seven. Those bursts propelled the Norse to a 25-12 win in the opening frame.
The Duhawks struggled to keep pace in the second set as well as the Norse steadily grew a lead before taking the set 15-13. After a slow start in the third set, the Duhawks rallied back with a 9-3 run to tie things up at 12-12. That burst wasn't enough to stave off the sweep as the Norse found their rhythm again and pulled away for a 25-18 win.
Freshman pin
Allie Burke paced the Duhawks with six kills, marking yet another strong performance as she has tallied five or more kills in each the team's last four matches. She and senior middle blocker
Olivia Smith combined on a block to give Burke 6.5 points on Wednesday.
On top of her 15 assists, junior setter
Sara Hoskins also helped out offensively as she notched four kills on her 13 attempts. Hoskins added seven digs to the defensive efforts as well.
Loras returns home for another conference match this Friday, Oct. 21, versus Simpson College. Game time is set for 6 P.M.
