Rally Falls Short as Duhawks End Season Versus Lakeland on Senior Day

Oct. 29, 2022 – Loras College's women's volleyball team wrapped up its 2022 slate on Saturday afternoon as the Duhawks honored five seniors ahead of their 3-1 loss to Lakeland University.

Seniors Talia McAtee, Olivia Smith, James Keefe, Sam Stoffregen, and Abbey Kwiatkoski were recognized ahead of the game as the Duhawks (8-19) went on to win the third set and nearly mount a comeback versus the Muskies (16-13).

A back-and-forth first set went the way of the Muskies thanks to a 4-0 run for the visitors when the score was knotted at 18-18. A pair of kills from Susana Stevens helped get Lakeland out front for a 25-21 win. That momentum carried into the second set as the Muskies made much easier work of the Duhawks on their way to a 25-16 win and a 2-0 lead in the match.

Loras charged back with a solid performance in the third set as a 6-0 run helped get the Duhawks out front with a 16-9 lead. The Muskies rallied and managed to knot the score back up at 20-20, but the Duhawks scored five of the final six points in the set to stave off a sweep with a 25-21 win.

A huge run for the Muskies in the fourth set gave them a commanding 20-13 lead, but again the Duhawks didn't go away quietly as they rallied late and held off four straight match points before ultimately falling 25-21.

Keefe led the offense with 13 kills while adding 17 digs to her line. Keefe was one of three Duhawks to reach double figures in kills as she was joined by sophomore Cat Gleason and freshman Allie Burke, who each tallied 10.

Stoffregen led the defense again with 21 digs while Smith notched a team-high three block assists. Junior setter Sara Hoskins totaled 41 assists in the game while adding 12 digs, one service ace, one block assist, and even six kills. Her six kills came on just 13 attempts as she accumulated a .462 attacking percentage.
