No. 23/18 Loras Claims 3-0 Win at Simpson

INDIANOLA, Iowa (Oct. 8, 2022) – No. 23/18 Loras College women's soccer stayed unbeaten in American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) play and claimed its third win in a row on Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 shutout win over Simpson College.

The Duhawks (9-0-3, 3-0-0 A-R-C) pitched their fifth shutout of the season and their second straight with the win over the Storm (5-5-1, 2-2-0 A-R-C). It's also the 13th straight victory in the series for Loras.

A goal in the 35th minute started the scoring as junior forward Kaighin Frost netted her first goal of the season shortly after a corner kick chance for the Duhawks. The goal for Frost marks her first since Sept. 20 of last season and the second of her career versus the Storm.

Loras' 1-0 lead didn't last long as the Duhawks added on less than three minutes later as sophomore Lauren Riggle led senior forward Ryleigh O'Brien to a header goal, her 12th score of the season, in the 38th minute. The assist marks the first of Riggle's career.

The Duhawks added one last insurance goal late in the game in the 71st minute when a shot from O'Brien bounded off the post and out to senior forward Erin Rieckens. Rieckens finished the chance for her third goal of the season.

Loras doubled up the Storm in total shots 30-15, but seven of those 15 shots were on goal as junior keeper Kyndal Kells turned them all away. Kells' seven saves are the most for her in a match this season and tie her career-high.

The Duhawks will look for their fourth-straight win this coming Tuesday, Oct. 11, when they travel across town to renew the rivalry with the University of Dubuque. Game time is set for 5 P.M.
