Men’s Soccer Aims for Second Straight A-R-C Tournament Title

November 4, 2022

Nov. 4, 2022 – After accomplishing the feat on the road last season, the Loras College men's soccer team is trying to win its second consecutive American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) Tournament title this weekend as the Duhawks face off with second-seeded Luther College on Saturday, Nov. 5 at the Rock Bowl at 7:30 P.M.

The Duhawks (10-5-2) are the top seed in this year's tournament and received a first-round bye before taking down fifth-seeded Nebraska Wesleyan University 4-0 in the semifinal round on Saturday.

Scouting the Norse
Luther (11-3-5) was vying hard for the top seed in this tournament but had to settle for second despite owning the tiebreaker with the Duhawks. Back on Oct. 5, the Norse trounced the Duhawks 6-0 at the Rock Bowl, to hand the Duhawks what is easily their most lopsided defeat of 2022.

Fifth-year forward Marcos Villa led the Norse that day with three goals and a pair of assists, giving him a career-high eight points in the game and good enough to name him as the conference's player of the week.

Since that win over Loras, the Norse are just 3-2-3, with all three wins coming in their last three matches, including a 4-1 win over third-seeded Simpson on Wednesday in the semifinal round.

In order to claim a second straight A-R-C Tournament title, the Duhawks will have to beat the Norse for the first time since 2018, as the visitors from Decorah, Iowa are 4-0-2 in the last six meetings.
