Dec. 21, 2022 – A rare Wednesday matinée for the Loras College men's basketball team will send the Duhawks into the holiday break with a six-game winning streak as they easily took down Blackburn College 90-59 at the Lillis Athletic and Wellness Center.
The Duhawks (8-3) blitzed the Beavers (4-7) from the jump and darted out to a 12-0 lead to start the game. From there, the margin never dipped back into single digits as a complete performance gave the Duhawks a 31-point victory, marking their largest of the season.
Those 59 points from Blackburn also mark the second time in the last three games that the Duhawks have held their opponent to under 60 points. The Duhawks also set a season-high mark with 11 made three-pointers and tied their season-high with a 55.6 field goal percentage (35-for-63).
After leading by as many as 21 earlier in the half, the Duhawks saw their lead slip down to 10 with four minutes left to play as a quick burst from the Beavers kept them in it. That run was quickly turned away by an 11-0 run for Loras that shot the lead back up to 21 as that run featured made three-pointers from junior guard
Ali Sabet and sophomore guard
Tyler Bass.
Loras cruised through the second half and held a 20+-point lead through to the end of the game as four Duhawks finished in double figures.
Sabet and Bass led the way yet again and continued their recent string of success. Sabet paced the team with 22 points, eight rebounds, three steals, and tied for the team lead with four assists to put together one of his most complete performances of the season.
Bass tallied 21 points for the second game in a row while adding five rebounds and a steal to his line. He finished 3-for-3 from three-point range to tie Sabet for the team lead with a trio of three-pointers each. Junior guard
Myles Barry added 10 points and three assists from the starting lineup.
Off the bench, sophomore guard
Jared Pearson tied his career-high with 12 on a perfect 5-for-5 shooting performance from the field, putting him into double figures for the third straight game.
The Duhawks will get more than a full week to prepare for their final game of the 2022 calendar year as they travel to Milwaukee, Wis. on Saturday, Dec. 31 for a New Year's Eve matchup with Wisconsin Lutheran College at 2 P.M.
