CLINTON, Iowa (Mar. 25, 2022) – Caroline Hutchinson and
Mariana Bayona Paez posted wins on Friday but the Loras College women's tennis team (9-6, 5-3 A-R-C) dropped an interdivisional matchup against Division II Truman State University (9-2) at the River Cities Tennis Complex in Clinton, Iowa.
The Duhawks had hoped to play their spring home opener at the Tucker Tennis Courts but unpredictable inclement early-spring snow showers and gusting winds moved match play indoors and off site. The Duhawks found themselves trailing 3-0 after doubles play but Hutchinson scored a 6-4, 7-5 win against Samantha Seggerman at the No. 3 spot and Bayona Paez battled back from a first set loss, 2-6, to win the second 6-3 and the tiebreaker 10-8 against Abbi Worster at No. 6. The Bulldogs came away with the wins at the remaining matches for the victory, matching up against an American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) team for the third time this season after playing Central College and Coe College to open the 2021-22 campaign.
The Duhawks will have nearly a month off until the next match, taking on the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh on Thursday, Apr. 10 in the final match of the regular season before opening the 2022 A-R-C Automatic Qualifier Tournament the week after.
