Steve Helminiak ('91) announced the addition of an assistant coach to his staff on Wednesday morning in
Rob Goode, who will serve as the Duhawks' new special teams coordinator and defensive line coach. Goode returns to Loras after a decade-long stint at the University of Montana Western.
"I am extremely excited to bring Coach Goode back to the program. I have known Coach Goode his his playing days, coached with him twice before and have seen his growth in coaching over the years," said Helminiak. "Coordinating the defense for the last 10 years at Montana Western and helping lead the Bulldogs to the postseason, Coach Goode brings a great amount of high-level experience and expertise to the staff."
Goode makes his return to Loras after serving on the Montana Western coaching staff for the last 10 years where he spent nine of those years as the Bulldogs' defensive coordinator. As a staple in the program's staff, Goode helped the Bulldogs to a share of the 2021 Frontier Conference Championship to reach the NAIA playoffs for the first time in 19 years. In his time at Montana Western, Goode coached 14 All-Conference First-Team honorees, 11 All-Conference Second-Team selections and three Frontier Conference Defensive Player of the Year recipients.
Prior to his time at Montana Western, Goode served on the Duhawks' coaching staff during the 2012 season as a running backs coach where he coached All-Conference First-Team selection Nate Carrier, who led the Iowa Conference that season with 1,210 rushing yards.
A native of Durand, Ill., Goode was a four-year member of the Rockford University football program. In 27 games played in his career, Goode totaled 72 total tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, forced three fumbles, broke up four passes, had an interception and one blocked kick. In his four years, Goode was named to the UMAC All-Conference Team twice and was selected to ESPN The Magazine's Academic All-District Team.
Goode earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from Rockford, earning his bachelor's in physical education in 2005 and completing his master's in education/teaching in 2007.
The Duhawks recently announced their 2022 campaign, kicking the season off on Sept. 3 at the Rock Bowl as they take on the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire Blugolds. You can find the full schedule release
