WINONA, Minn. (Apr. 29, 2022) - Making their first appearance in the American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) Tournament Semifinals since 2017, the No. 4-seeded Loras College women's tennis team (11-7, 5-3 A-R-C) headed to Decorah on Friday to take on the top-seeded Luther College Norse (17-10, 8-0 A-R-C). Rainy court conditions forced the teams to take a detour north to Winona, Minn., seeing the Norse walk away with the victory and advance in the tournament.
In double action,
Leia Papanicholas and
Clair Moore fell to Sofia Sackett and Ana Olimpio with a final score of 8-2 at No. 2 doubles.
Isabel Schwabe and
Caroline Hutchinson battled with the Norse duo of Shelby Cook and Julia Moreno, holding them close but falling 8-6 in the No. 1 doubles match. The Norse picked up their third victory of the match in the No. 3 doubles matchup that saw
Dorothy Deans and
Sara Backus fall to Lexi Hasting and Renata Martinez with a final score of 8-2.
Trailing by three going into singles play, the Duhawks looked to gain momentum but Moore was edged by Moreno 6-0, 6-1 before the Norse finished the game after taking the No. 3 singles match, seeing Hutchinson be defeated by Cook 6-1, 6-2, taking the match with a final score of 5-0.
The Norse are set to take on the winner of the Coe College/Central College matchup in the finals, where the winner will earn an automatic bid into the NCAA Division III National Tournament that will take place May 23-29 in Orlando, Fla.
