CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (May 13, 2022) - Opening American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) AQ Tournament action with a win over the Wartburg College Knights, the RV Loras College baseball team (32-10, 15-9 A-R-C) moved on in the tournament to meet up with the Kohawks from Coe College. Despite a record-setting performance by Max Cullen, who became the new single season doubles record holder by hitting his 18th of the season, the Duhawks fell to the Kohawks with a final score of 11-3.

Neither side brought home runs in the first and second innings of the game, but Coe broke the scoreless ball game in the top of the third inning, scoring a pair on an infield error and an RBI groundout before tacking on another in the fourth and three more in the fifth to gain a 6-0 advantage in the midway point of the game.

The Duhawks' three runs of the game came in the bottom half of the fifth inning as designated hitter Chris Costantino poked a single into right field with one out on the side before Ryan Wohlers, who started on the mound for the Duhawks, came in to pinch run and take over at the DH position. Dakota Church put a ball down the left field line to join Wohlers on base to pave the way for Luke Fennelly to hit a single into center field, bringing around Wohlers and putting Church at third. Fennelly advanced on the relay throw to third to put runners in scoring position for Max McCallum, who knocked in Church on a groundout to second before Cullen's record-setting RBI double brought home Fennelly for the third run of the inning.

The Kohawks continued to pound at the plate, scoring a trio of runs in the top of the seventh and adding two more insurance runs in the top of the ninth while cooling down the Duhawks' bats to take the game with a final score of 11-3.

Wohlers dished 5.0 innings on the mound, allowing six runs on seven hits with three strikeouts before Dylan Ackermann tossed 1.2 innings, allowing three runs on three hits with a strikeout. Danny Hiemer closed the game out for Loras, putting in 2.1 innings of work and allowing two runs on three hits with a pair of strikeouts.

Cullen had the Duhawks' lone extra-base hit with his fifth inning RBI double while Dylan Pardoe led the offensive efforts with a 2-for-4 day at the plate.

Tournament action continues for the Duhawks on Saturday, May 14 as they look to battle their way back to the Championship game to meet back up with Coe. The Duhawks' run begins at 10:00 AM as they face the Knights from Wartburg College for the second time of the tournament.
