Budewitz Joins Women's Basketball Staff as Assistant Coach

July 1, 2022 – Loras College women's basketball head coach Justin Heinzen has announced the hiring of Kayla Budewitz as the next assistant coach for the Duhawks. Budewitz comes to Loras from Central College where she served as the assistant for the Dutch.

Budewitz started at Central in 2020 after three seasons with Whitman College in Washington. With the Dutch, she helped lead the team to the American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) tournament and two student-athletes earned All-Conference honors. While at Whitman, she helped the Blues to two NCAA tournament appearances. She started at Whitman after serving as the graduate assistant coach for Concordia University Chicago from 2015-17 and earned her master's degree in sports administration.

As a student-athlete, Budewitz played at Calvin University and earned First Team All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) honors as a senior. She was a four-year starter and two-year team captain with 1,154 points in her career and sits fifth in school history in assists with 333. The Knights won three conference titles during her career and reached the NCAA Elite Eight twice.

Budewitz is a National Strength & Conditioning Association certified strength and conditioning specialist and was a member of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Mentor Program and Coaching Summit. She is a native of Unionville, Mich. and resides in Dubuque, Iowa.
