DUBUQUE, Iowa (Jan. 28, 2023) – With most of the team competing at the Aurora University Grand Prix on Friday, a handful of Duhawks got a chance to showcase their skills on Saturday at the University of Dubuque's Spartans Invite.
A trio of pole vaulters headed down the road to UD as senior
Ray Venditti led the way with a second place finish. Venditti cleared a 4.65-meter-high bar to finish runner-up to the University of Northern Iowa's Brendan Safley.
Venditti was followed closely by senior
Logan Jones in third place with a best mark of 4.20 meters. Sophomore
Alex Wilson was also in the pole vault field but did not record an official mark.
Sophomore
Will Kieffer made the most of his day as he laid down a new personal-best time in the 800-meter run with a 2:03.11. That time placed him seventh in the event and helped Loras to earn a sixth-place team finish out of nine teams despite their limited roster.
Freshman
Blake Fitzgerrel rounded out Loras' entries as he took 12
th in the 200-meter dash (24.36) and 18
th in the 60-meter dash (7.53).
Loras will compete again next weekend as some will travel to the Wartburg College Select Invite on Friday-Saturday, Feb. 3-4 in Waverly, Iowa.
