No. 18 Duhawks Down Beavers, 43-3

STORM LAKE, Iowa – The Loras College Duhawk wrestling team earned its first conference dual met win of the season in a convincing 43-3 victory over Buena Vista University on Thursday night inside Siebens Fieldhouse.

The Duhawks (1-0 overall, 1-0 American Rivers Conference) won nine of the 10 bouts to churn out the sizable win over the Beavers (0-2 overall, 0-1 A-R-C) in the program's first inter-conference action of the season.

Carter Anderson led off the match by defeating Tyler Japp in the 125, 11-1, to give the Duhawks an early 4-0 lead. Aiden Evans won 12-4 over Dustin Bohren at 135 to put Loras up 8-0 before Nosa Egbon won on an injury default at 141 to give the Purple and Gold a 13-0 advantage.

BVU won at 149 to get on the board (13-3), but Chase Fiser responded with a 14-2 victory in the 157 weight class over Hayden Stout to put Loras back on track. Dustin Bohren (165 lbs.) defeated Michael De la Cruz on a fall at 2:54 before Zeb Gnida won on a tech fall (15-0) over Max Mashek to put Loras up 28-3. 

Drew Venteicher defeated Ryan Hunter at 184 on a fall at 1:54 to give Loras a 34-3 advantage. The Duhawks closed out the meet with an 18-3 win for Kam Rostyer win over Luis Salazar at 197 and a 13-2 win for Jake LaMonto at 285 over Colton O'Hern.

The Purple and Gold will hit the road for another open event this Saturday, Nov. 18 at the CUW Open, hosted by Concordia University-Wisconsin. The meet in Mequon, Wis. gets underway at 9 a.m.
