CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa –
Jackson Molstead scored a team-high 14 points but was unable to get his game-tying floater to fall as Coe College beat Loras, 76-74, in the Duhawks' first taste of American Rivers Conference play of the season on Tuesday night inside the Kohawk Arena.
The Duhawks (2-1 overall, 0-1 A-R-C) held the scoring advantage for over 34 minutes of the contest, but Coe (5-1, 1-0) made the most of the final moments of the game. Sherry Bennett hit a and-one layup with 30 seconds left to give Coe the final lead. Molstead's final attempt to tie things up on the ensuing possession was blocked as time expired.
Tyler Bass scored 13 points on 4-of-7 shooting while pulling in five rebounds, numbers that both are season-highs for the junior big man out of Washington, Ill.
Ali Sabet scored 13 points and recorded four rebounds, while
Jared Pearson and
Myles Barry each scored nine to help pace the Purple and Gold.
The two teams were nearly identical from the field as Loras shot 25-of-55 (45.5%), while the Kohawks went 26-of-56 (46.4%). The Duhawks continued to hold a rebounding advantage over its opponents, winning the battle 34 to 26.
