DUBUQUE, Iowa – Senior guard
Madison Fleckenstein matched her season high with 19 points while two other Duhawks scored double-digits, but it wasn't enough to unseat the No. 12 Wartburg College Knights as the No. 15 Loras College Duhawks fell, 64-56, on Wednesday evening inside the Lillis Athletic and Wellness Center.
Fleckenstein was an efficient 8-of-15 from the floor in her 32 minutes of action for the Purple and Gold (4-1 overall, 1-1 American Rivers Conference), but the Knights (6-0, 2-0) proved too tough to overcome, leading for 36 minutes of the game.
Sami Martin finished with 13 points, eight rebounds, one assist, and one block in 28 minutes of action.
Madison Haslow converted a season-high five shots from the floor en route to scoring 10 points. The Crystal Lake, Ill. native tied
Daniella Jarrell for the second-most rebounds on the team with five.
The Knights were the beneficiary of the referee's whistle, as Wartburg dominated at the charity stripe at a mark of 20 attempts to Loras' five. Of its 20 attempts, the Knights converted 15 (75%), while Loras was a perfect 5-of-5.
The Knights led the way in field goal percentage, knocking down 20 of their 47 attempts (42.6%), while the Duhawks were 23-of-61 (37.7%). Wartburg held advantages in rebounds (31-26) and bench points (11-5), but where Loras excelled was forcing turnovers. The Knights committed 21 turnovers, the second-most any team has done against Loras this season. Loras was able to capitalize to the tune of 18 points off those turnovers, holding a three-point advantage over the Knights.
