December 12, 2023

Box Score

DUBUQUE, Iowa – Between the efforts of Jack Haynes and Ali Sabet that led to the duo scoring half of Loras' points, the Duhawks defended the home court in a 100-75 non-conference victory over the University of Wisconsin-Stout Blue Devils on Tuesday night inside the Lillis Athletic & Wellness Center.

Haynes played the best game of his Loras career, as the sophomore scored 26 points and hauled in nine rebounds – marks that stand as career-highs – all in 21 minutes of action. The Streator, Ill. native was 12-for-17 from the floor, including 2-of-4 from deep to lead all scorers.

Sabet, meanwhile, did most of his work in the second half, as the seasoned guard scored 22 of his 24 points in the second frame alone. The Glenview, Ill. native knocked down five second half threes, finishing the day 8-for-15 from the field with five rebounds, four assists, two steals, and a block.

Tyler Bass has put together back-to-back strong double-doubles, this time finishing with 19 points and a team-high 15 rebounds in 35 minutes of action. The junior was 6-for-11 from the field, in addition to going a near-perfect 6-for-7 from the free throw line.

Jackson Molstead rounded out Loras' double digit scorers, as the guard put on a clinic with 19 points and 11 assists – the most by any Duhawk this season.

Loras (7-1 overall, 2-1 American Rivers Conference) finished the game shooting 48.7 percent (37-76) from the floor, including 15-for-36 (41.7 percent) from deep. UW-Stout (4-5) was 29-for-63 from the floor, while going a bleak 6-of-23 (26.1 percent) from three point land. The Duhawks continued to show why they're the top free throw shooting team in the nation as the program knocked down 11 of its 12 attempts (91.7 percent) from the charity stripe, while the Blue Devils struggled at 57.9 percent (11-for-19).

The Purple and Gold yet again won the rebounding battle at a mark of 43-to-36, including an offensive rebound tally of 14-to-10. Loras held an advantage in assists (25-16), blocks (8-5), and steals (8-14).

The Duhawks got out to an early 6-0 advantage led by an early four points from Bass. UW-Stout battled back, scoring seven-straight to take the only lead it would have over the course of the game. From there, Loras would go on to lead by as much as 11 over the course of the first half before heading into the break with a 46-38 advantage.

The Duhawks opened the second half on an offensive tear, leading it by as much as 18 (63-45) with 14:48 to play. UW-Stout was able to get within eight points after a layup by George Scharlau with 7:51 to play, but a quick 10-1 run fueled by eight points from Sabet gave Loras all the distance it needed to cruise to the 25-point win, the program's fifth-straight.

Up next, Loras heads to Sheboygan, Wis. on Monday, Dec. 18 to take on Lakeland University. Tip is set for 5 p.m. inside Woltzen Gymnasium.
