Duhawks Earn 81-66 Win Over Bethany Lutheran

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Loras College women's basketball team closed out its nonconference schedule with an 81-66 victory over Bethany Lutheran College on Lillis Court Saturday evening.

The contest featured just one tie at 2-2 that occurred in the opening 34 seconds of play, but a basket by Sami Martin gave the Duhawks a 4-2 lead that they would maintain for the remainder of the game.

Loras (10-2 overall, 2-1 American Rivers Conference) held a 47-24 advantage over the Vikings at the midway point.

The Purple and Gold led by as many as 33 points halfway through the third period and kept a comfortable cushion in the fourth quarter despite Bethany Lutheran outscoring them 19-10.

Leading the Duhawk offense was Madison Haslow who tallied her second double-double of the season, finishing with 20 points and 11 rebounds in 27 minutes of action. The Crystal Lake, Ill. native shot 8-of-12 from the floor, 2-of-5 from three-point range and 2-of-2 from the foul line. Sami Martin added in 14 points and four rebounds, while Lexi Beier scored a career-high 13 points, nine of which came from behind the arc. Silvana Scarsella and Claire Wagner rounded out the double-digit scorers for Loras with 12 and 11 points respectively. Daniella Jarrell also dished out a career-high nine assists in the win. As a team, the Duhawks shot 46.4 percent (32-of-69) from the field and 73.3 percent (11-of-15) from the charity stripe.

Lexis Trygg led the way for the Vikings, totaling 22 points and grabbing 11 rebounds, while Gianna Klarenbeek chipped in 16 points.

Up Next: The Duhawks return to conference play on Wednesday, Jan. 3 when they travel to Storm Lake, Iowa to take on the Buena Vista University Beavers. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
