CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (Feb. 12, 2023) – Loras College men's tennis kicked off the spring portion of it's 2022-23 tennis slate on Saturday morning, but the Duhawks suffered a 9-0 defeat to Coe College on the road.
The Duhawks (2-3, 0-1 A-R-C) opened the American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) season with a tough draw as it faced off with the Kohawks (3-0, 1-0 A-R-C), who are picked to finished second in the league standings come the end of the year.
Two of the younger Duhawk players in sophomore
Kareem Kassas and freshman
Lucas Healy teamed up at No. 3 doubles on Saturday and held their own in an 8-3 loss to Coe's Harry Hawbaker and Conner Kryscio. That match was the closest of the three doubles battles.
Senior
Kevin Blomquist slotted in at No. 1 singles for the Duhawks and put up a strong fight against Coe's Jordan Oaks. Blomquist did his best to keep pace in the first set, but fell 6-4 in the opener and couldn't regain any momentum in set two, where he fell 6-2.
The Duhawks are back in action again next Saturday, Feb. 18, when they travel north to play the University of Wisconsin-Superior at 5 P.M.
