Loras Football Announces 2023 Schedule

March 7, 2023

March 7, 2023 – Loras College's football team released its 2023 schedule on Tuesday morning as the Duhawks' nonconference slate features a night game to open the year and a trip to western Michigan to lead off for American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) action.

Loras will start its season on Saturday, Sept. 2, at 6 P.M. against Benedictine University under the lights of the Rock Bowl. The Knights of Columbus will present our nation's colors during the pregame festivities as part of Military Appreciation Night. This game will mark the first night game at the Rock Bowl since 2019, when Loras beat Benedictine 42-14 on Sept. 14.

On Sept. 9, the Duhawk hit the road for the first time and finish their nonconference action against Hope College in Holland, Mich. at 1 P.M. ET. This first ever matchup with the Flying Dutchmen, who went 6-4 last year with a 3-3 record in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAA), marks the first time since it's years a club team in the 1970s that the program will play a game outside of the central time zone.

Loras will start A-R-C play the following week as it returns home to face Luther College on Sept. 16. The Duhawks have won five straight against the Norse, including a 40-21 win in Decorah in 2022.

The first conference road game will be the always-intense Key City Clash at the University of Dubuque on Sept. 23. Despite five straight one-score games in the series, including a 27-20 overtime defeat at the Rock Bowl in 2022, the Duhawks have not taken possession of the coveted Key since 2010.

Something the Duhawks didn't get last year was a bye week, but this year they'll get one between their game against the Spartans and their Homecoming matchup with Central College on Oct. 7. Loras snapped a five-game losing streak to the Dutch last season as freshman punter/kicker Aidan Driscoll nailed a 37-yard field goal in the closing seconds to give the Duhawks a 38-35 win over No. 12 Central in Pella, Iowa in the A-R-C opener for the both teams.

Loras heads out to Lincoln, Neb. on Oct. 14, aiming for a sixth straight win over the Nebraska Wesleyan University Prairie Wolves. Loras' only loss to NWU came in the first meeting in the series back in 2016.

One game that must be circled on everyone's calendars is Oct. 21 when Loras hosts Wartburg College. The Knights reached the NCAA Division III National Semifinals last season, giving the Duhawks a chance to pull a big upset and earn their first win against the Knights since 2004.

The Duhawks will look to keep another winning streak alive on Oct. 28 when they travel to play at Buena Vista University. Including a 65-0 Homecoming drumming of the Beavers last season, the Duhawks have won each of the last five meetings in the series.

Loras' Senior Day and final home game will be on Nov. 4 against Simpson College. The Duhawks will look to finish the home slate with a win against the Storm, whom they have beaten three times in a row, but are just 7-14 against since 2000.

Finally, Loras concludes the regular season on the road at Coe College on Nov. 11. The Kohawks have owned the series as of late with 13 wins in the last 14 games, but four of the last five have been one-score games. The Duhawks will aim for their first win in Cedar Rapids since the 2008 season.

The full Duhawk football slate can be seen here. All A-R-C games are scheduled for 1 P.M.
