April 1, 2023 – After weather delayed the start of this American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) series back to Saturday afternoon, Loras College's baseball team just couldn't keep pace with Buena Vista University in an 8-5 defeat.
The Duhawks (12-8, 3-3 A-R-C) couldn't limit the Beavers (14-4, 5-0 A-R-C) in a couple of big innings that led to the visitors claiming their fifth straight game to begin conference play.
The Beavers got everything started in the first with a pair of runs on a double steal and an RBI single to take a 2-0 lead, but that didn't last as Loras got both runs back in the bottom half on a two-run homer from junior
Daniel Rogers, his fourth so far this season.
It wasn't until the fifth inning until there were more runs as Buena Vista got a two-run homer of its own to take a 4-2 lead with no outs in the inning. Two more hits and a fielder's choice RBI put the Beavers up 5-2 at the end of the frame.
Buena Vista added one more in the top of the seventh before the Duhawks scored a pair in the bottom half as freshman
Cody Sunny tallied an RBI single.
With the deficit cut down to 6-4, Loras gave itself a chance, but two more runs for the Beavers in the top of the eighth put them up by four. Freshman
Jackson Cullen's sac fly in the ninth make it an 8-5 final, but that was as close as the Duhawks could get to a comeback bid.
The series will conclude on Saturday, April 2 with a doubleheader at Petrakis Park. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 12 P.M.
