DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Loras College Duhawks men's soccer team has gotten off to a solid start to the 2023 season, and the nation is starting to take notice. Tuesday marked the first United Soccer Coaches Region IX Poll, which shows the Duhawks (3-0-2 overall) ranked third. In the national poll, Loras is receiving votes.
The Duhawks registered three-straight victories to start the season, outscoring their opponents 14-1 over that span. On Sept. 8, Loras took on Gustavus Adolphus College, who received the top spot in the Region IX poll and is ranked No. 10 nationally, settling the bout in a 1-1 draw.
The next day, the Duhawks faced Saint John's University, who are ranked fifth in the regional poll, and finished with the same result, a 1-1 draw.
Looking ahead on the schedule, only Wartburg (No. 4) is ranked regionally, while Nebraska Wesleyan University is receiving votes. The Duhawks play NWU on Sept. 30 and face Wartburg on Oct. 10.
