DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Loras College women's soccer team kicked off its 2023 campaign by blanking the Aurora University Spartans, 6-0, on Friday evening in the Rock Bowl.
Julia Neary put the Duhawks on the board less than four minutes into the contest with a goal off of assists from
Bella Talbot and
Savannah Johnson.
Johnson added in her first goal of the night in the 15
th minute off of an assist from teammate
Reagan Lindsay to give Loras the 2-0 advantage at the half.
The second half featured goals from four different Duhawks.
Hannah Schmitz found the back of the net at the 55:44 mark off of a pass from Lindsay to increase the Duhawk lead to 3-0.
Johnson tallied her second goal of the contest with a penalty kick in the 68
th minute. Five minutes later,
Athena Sheets netted her first collegiate goal to hold a dominant 5-0 lead over the Spartans.
Erin Rankin scored the final goal of the night off of an assist from
Isabel Russmann to secure the 6-0 victory for the Duhawks.
Loras (1-0) recorded 34 shots, 18 of which were on goal, while limiting Aurora (0-1) to just one shot on goal.
Kyndal Kells earned the win in the net for the Duhawks with one save.
