Box Score HOLLAND, Mich. – Loras dropped its first road game of the season, falling 42-28 to Hope College at Ray and Sue Smith Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The loss puts Loras at an overall record of 1-1 on the season, while Hope moves to 1-1.
Quarterback
Evan England threw for 278 yards and three touchdowns, two of which fell into the hands of wide receiver
Mani Brown, who recorded eight receptions for 118 yards. It was his fourth career game with multiple scores for the 6-2 wideout out of Fort Meyers, Fla. Brown now has 1,220 career receiving yards, placing him 119 yards shy of breaking into the program's top-10 list.
Michael Crawford hauled in seven receptions for 66 yards and a score. Meanwhile,
Jaheem Haynes caught four balls for 46 yards, while
Johnnie Cason II hauled in three passes for 33 yards.
Jamel Britt totaled a season-high 71 yards on 14 carries, a mark that led the team. The junior running back scored his fourth rushing touchdown of the season, showing more elusiveness than what we saw in week one on his 14-yard score.
Defensively,
Brett Bower led the way for Loras with 13 total tackles, including a career-high 10 solo tackles. He was trailed by
Dawson Charley and
Owen Kelly, who had seven total tackles apiece.
Michael Mixan recorded his first sack of the season, dropping Hope's quarterback for a seven-yard loss.
Jonah Clark and
Brandon Phelps each also picked up half a sack.
Kicker
Scott Talmadge was a perfect four-for-four on extra point attempts, moving the Akeny native to a perfect 10-for-10 on the season.
Loras returns home for its American Rivers Conference opener on Sept. 16, when the Duhawks welcome Luther College to the Rock Bowl at 1 p.m.
